Für die Unterstützung der zielgerichteten Einführung und Nutzung von Social Networking Services in Unternehmen fehlen aber noch fundierte Erkenntnisse aus Theorie und Praxis an denen man sich orientieren könnte. Hierzu leistet Alexander Richter mit seiner Arbeit einen entscheidenden Beitrag. Als Ziel definiert er sich dazu die „Identifikation der spezifischen Herausforderungen der soziotechnischen Systemgestaltung bezüglich der erfolgreichen Adaption, Einführung und Nutzung von SNS in Unternehmen“.
Die wesentliche Leistung der vorliegenden Arbeit besteht in der Charakterisierung von Social Networking Services, die an sich schon einen deutlichen Fortschritt zum aktuellen Stand der Forschung darstellt, sowie in der methodischen Erarbeitung und Diskussion von Gestaltungsparametern für diese neue Klasse von Anwendungssystemen.
Durch das sich Stützen auf etablierte Modelle und Theorien und deren Überprüfung in der Praxis (über eine Umfrage und Fallstudien) liefert die Arbeit dabei sowohl einen deutlichen wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt als auch einen klaren und nützlichen Beitrag für die Praxis.
Für Praktiker sind insbesondere die Fallstudien und die strukturierten Gestaltungsempfehlungen interessant, für die wissenschaftliche Beschäftigung mit Social Networking Services vor allem die Charakterisierung des Feldes sowie die Zurückführung der beobachteten Phänomene auf etablierte Theorien aus dem Feld.

Die Arbeit ist im Galber-Verlag in der Herausgeberreihe von Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Arnold Picot, Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Ralf Reichwald, Prof. Dr. Egon Franck und Prof. Dr. Kathrin Möslein erschienen.

ECSCW is interested in cooperative settings in the workplace, in everyday life, and the civic society, and across boundaries between these spheres of life. Submissions should address the unfolding practices of everyday work and life, and the application of computing technologies in these practices. Papers may also focus on design of such technologies or on historical accounts of use. With design is meant processes, methods, and outcoming artefacts. ECSCW solicits reports reflecting a rich variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including field studies and participatory approaches.

ECSCW is a bi-annual, international conference series. Since 1989, it has engaged researchers and scholars from academia and industry with high quality presentations and intense discussions (www.ecscw.org). ECSCW is affiliated with the European Association of Socially Embedded Technologies (EUSSET): www.eusset.eu

The conference is soliciting high quality contributions that report

• novel techniques and technologies relevant to CSCW,
• empirical studies of work that contribute to the design space of CSCW,
• enhancement of the conceptual foundations of CSCW.

In particular, the conference welcomes contributions that focus on:

• Empirical studies of collaboration in settings ranging from work to civic engagement and everyday life.
• Comparative analyses of empirical studies that contribute to a deeper understanding of domain specific or more general CSCW principles.
• Empirical studies on the appropriation of innovative technologies.
• Innovative technologies, applications, or functionality in support of collaborative work.
• Investigations into the usage and design of coordination artifacts as well as webs of technology (infrastructures).
• New technology-enabled forms of organization and virtual organizing.
• Collaboratories, distributed scientific work, and CSCW aspects of e-science.
• Studies dealing with the technology induced reshaping of the division of labor between customers and producers and within the supply chain, e.g. prosuming phenomena.
• Studies of intercultural cooperation, such as in globally engaged enterprises, multinational organizations, international NGOs, networks of the civil society, and off-shoring relationships.
• Studies on collaborative work in emergent and developing economies.
• Conception, construction and use of CSCW technologies in complex and demanding settings, like manufacturing, software engineering, healthcare, care giving, security, and control systems.
• Ubiquitous and mobile computing in collaborative settings: empirical research of use, studies of integration with other CSCW technologies and applications.
• Integration of CSCW technologies with existing infrastructures, such as information systems, production systems, decision support systems, and knowledge management systems.
• Conception, construction, and use of innovative interaction modes for CSCW applications, e.g. interfaces and supportive functionalities for universal access.
• Architectures supporting CSCW technologies with quality requirements, such as flexibility, tailorability, and adaptability.
• Innovative use of social media to support collective action.
  Studies of collaboration across time, including knowledge management and expertise sharing.

All contributions will be rigorously evaluated in terms of their novelty, significance, quality, and contribution to the discipline. Accepted research papers and notes will be included in the conference proceedings published by Springer and freely available at the ECSCW website at: www.ecscw.org. They will also be indexed in and available through the ACM digital library.

ECSCW 2011 requires that submissions have not been published previously and that papers submitted are not under simultaneous review for any other publication.

Generell ist über die Beiträge hinweg wahrzunehmen, dass sich der Standpunkt der Forschung gegenüber Enterprise 2.0 verändert. In den vergangenen Jahren wurde überwiegend über einzelne Fälle des Einsatzes von Social Software in Unternehmen berichtet und es wurde aus dem Einsatzkontext heraus auf erfolgreiche Praktiken bzw. Szenarien geschlossen. Inzwischen, so scheint es, ist Enterprise 2.0 dabei in der breiten Masse anzukommen. Bereits beim letztjährigen Workshop stellten dazu mehrere Teilnehmer fest, dass Enterprise 2.0 reifer wird. Im vorliegenden Workshopband stellen nun mehrere Autoren einzelne Faktoren wie die Reife oder den Nutzen des Einsatzes von Enterprise 2.0 gezielt in Frage oder stellen zur Diskussion wie man Einführung von Social Software angemessen und umfassend erforschen kann.

Neben kurzen Präsentationen von Ergebnissen/Erkenntnissen zu obigen Themen durch die aktiven Teilnehmer wollen wir auf dem Workshop hauptsächlich interaktiv am Zusammenbringen der isolierten Erkenntnisse und Erfahrungen aus den unterschiedlichen Disziplinen arbeiten. Zum Zeitpunkt der Fertigstellung des Workshop-Bandes sind wir davon überzeugt, dass der Workshop viele relevante Ergebnisse sowohl aus dem universitären Bereich als auch aus den Unternehmen zu Tage bringen wird.

Übrigens sind auch weiterhin noch Forscher und Praktiker dazu eingeladen, am Workshop teilzunehmen.

The biennial Communities and Technologies (C&T) conference is the premier international forum for stimulating scholarly debate and disseminating research on the complex connections between communities – both physical and virtual – and information and communication technologies.

C&T 2011 welcomes participation from researchers, designers, educators, industry, and students from the many disciplines and perspectives bearing on the interaction between community and technology, including architecture, arts, business, design, economics, education, engineering, ergonomics, information technology, geography, health, humanities, law, media and communication studies, and social sciences. PAPER SUBMISSIONS

All submissions must be written in English. Papers must be no longer than 10 pages, including all additional material such as references, appendices, and figures. Please format papers using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform. Full papers must include a title, sufficient space for the author name(s) to appear on the paper, contact information and affiliations, abstract, keywords, body, and references. Papers submitted by the due date will undergo a double blind peer review process by an international panel and evaluated on the basis of their significance, innovation, academic rigour, and clarity of writing. Accepted papers will be included in the published conference proceedings if at least one author of any accepted submission has registered and attends the conference. Papers are submitted via an online submission system that will be opened in September 2010.

WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

Workshops are half day or full day sessions prior to the main conference program on 29 June 2011. Workshop proposals (max of 2 pages, using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform) should be aimed at a community with a common interest. If you are working in an emerging area of Communities and Technologies, consider organising a workshop as an opportunity to advance the field and build momentum. C&T workshops might address basic or applied research and practice, new methodologies, emerging application areas, design innovations, management and organisational issues, or education. Each workshop should generate ideas that give the C&T community a new, organised way of thinking about the topic, or ideas that suggest promising directions for future research. Some workshops result in edited books or special issues of journals; you may consider including this goal in your workshop proposal.

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

The Doctoral Consortium is scheduled prior to the main conference program on 29 June 2011. The Doctoral Consortium offers research students a special forum where they can present, discuss and progress their research plans with peers and established senior researchers. Research students wishing to attend the consortium should submit 4 pages, using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform, addressing 4 headings: Aims and Background; Significance and Innovation; Methodology; Questions and Issues (that is, identify those areas you seek feedback on). Places at the consortium will be offered based on a review of the submitted proposals.

For many years now Bled eConference has been managing to attract speakers and delegates from business, government, information technology providers and universities and has become a major venue for international researchers working in all aspects of Information Systems.

In the last years the Cooperation Systems Center Munich has been present several times to report on research results in the area of Computer Supported Collaborative Work.
This year’s CSCM contribution is entitled “Tweet Inside: Microblogging in a Corporate Context” and reports on the potential of Enterprise Microblogging to support team communication and collaboration. The paper stems from a research project that was carried out together with the University of Sydney in late 2009 and was made possible thanks to data kindly provided by the Dresden based company Communardo.

We are proud to announce that the paper has also just won this year’s Outstanding Paper Award.

Tweet Inside: Microblogging in a Corporate Context

Der Workshop findet am 19.9.2010 in Maastricht (in der Nähe der deutschen Grenze) statt. Eine Bewerbung ist bis zum 30.6.2010 möglich.

Ziel des Workshops war es in einem interdisziplinären Kreis zu klären, was die (Forschungs-)Relevanz dieses Themas ist, was wichtige Forschungsfragen für die Zukunft darstellen und was wir verschiedenen Förderinstitutionen zur Entwicklung/Förderung des Bereichs vorschlagen würden.

Die vielen spannenden Diskussionen sind inzwischen in einem “Dagstuhl Manifesto – Digital Social Media” zusammen getragen worden – Eine PDF-Version des Manifests ist auf der Websites des Schloss Dagstuhl verfügbar.

This manifesto explains and stresses the importance of “digital social media”, “social software” and “social computing”. In particular, it makes the claim that we need a better understanding of how this mix of enabling technology, social behaviour and market practises is challenging our socio-economical and political systems, and puts forward an action plan for the areas of education, fundamental research and applied research, to address these challenges.

The goal of this manifesto is to raise awareness for digital social media and to stress the need for research, research funding, and education in a field so far underrepresented in public research funding programmes and in education. This manifesto does not cover all aspects of digital social media, or provide a comprehensive treatment of their socio economical impact. Such issues are beyond the scope of this manifesto.

This manifesto is an outcome of a Perspective Workshop held from the 25th to 29th of January 2010 at the research centre Schloss Dagstuhl. The workshop brought together scientists and practitioners from academia and industry, across the fields of social sci- ences and computer science.

Auf der Plattform von E20Cases haben wir heute einen Beitrag veröffentlicht in dem wir zusammenfassen, was wir uns mit dieser Initiative als Ziel gesetzt haben, wie wir bei der Sammlung und Erhebung von Fallstudien vorgehen und was wir als nächste Schritte planen. Das Ergebnis unserer Bemühungen soll als eine Art Referenz für E20Cases dienen und wird demnächst auch im Tagungsband der “KnowTech 2010″, dem 12. Kongress zum IT-gestützten Wissensmanagement in Unternehmen und Organisationen, veröffentlicht.

Zudem werden Andrea Back und Michael Koch auf der KnowTech 2010 selbst im Oktober den aktuellen Stand von E20Cases vorstellen. An dieser Stelle möchten wir bereits jetzt den Beitrag für die KnowTech zur Verfügung stellen.

Die Webinale ist die größte europäische Konferenz rund um Themen wie Web-Entwicklung und Standards und lockte auch in diesem Jahr knapp 1000 Teilnehmer an und es waren rund 80 Vortragende aus verschiedenen Ländern (u.a. Australien, England, Frankreich, Türkei) anwesend. Unter diesen war (bereits zum dritten Mal) auch CSCM mit zwei Vorträgen zu „Social Media Marketing“ und „Learnings aus dem Einsatz von großen Touch Screens“.
